- established diagnosis with diabetes mellitus
- History of thyroid disease
- Prior thyroid surgery
- Current thyroid replacement or anti-thyroid medication
- Use (within last 3 months) of drugs known to affect thyroid function or antibodies
- Pregnancy or breast feeding
